Swiss Meat & Sausage Co. Receives “Best Of Show” Six Years in a Row!

 

     Swiss Meat & Sausage Company, a third generation family owned and operated business near Hermann, Mo., was honored for the sixth straight year with the prestigious “Best of Show” award presented at the 25th annual Wurstfest celebration held in Hermann March 27th and 28th.  The honored “wurst” was a Rhine Valley Smoked Pork Sausage.  This is the same recipe served each year at the Annual Fireman’s Breakfast. Attendees of the breakfast seemed to agree with the Wurstfest judges!

     Swiss took home honors for several of their sausage products.  These winners included:  Smoked Rhine Valley Pork Sausage – Grand Champion, Smoked Bratwurst- Grand Champion, Headcheese and Liver Sausage-both Grand Champion, Traditional Summer Sausage-Grand Champion, Elk Summer Sausage-Grand Champion and Swiss Brand Bratwurst-Grand Champion.

     Reserve Grand Champion was awarded to the Blutwurst, while their Jerky, German Braunschweiger, and German Bologna received Champion recognition. 

     Judges for this year’s “wurst” competition included Dr. Don Nauman, Professor Emeritus University of Missouri, Columbia; Kevin Western, Western Smokehouse, Greentop, Mo.;  Suzanne Corbett, Food Editor,;  Doug Rock and Scott Steinmann, Koch Equipment, Kansas City, Mo.;  and Bob Aston and Steve Mueller, both from Hermann.  Celebrity judges were Lynn Stewart, WIL Radio personality and Matt Chambers, newscaster/weatherman from KRCG Channel 13, Jefferson City/Columbia.

     Swiss Meat also attended the Iowa Association of Meat Processors Convention March 18-20th in Ames, IA where they entered a quad-state competition which included the states of Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.  They received Champion in this “Best of the Midwest” competition for Summer Sausage.
