SWISS BRATS NOW ON AMTRAK'S NATIONWIDE MENU

The small village of Swiss, Mo, located 12 miles south of historic Hermann boasts an unofficial population of about forty.  It is home to the Silver Dollar Lounge, Mike's Performance Center and for the past 135 years the Swiss Evangelical Reformed Church has thrived in this small community.  But there is one business that has really put Swiss on the map and made it a memorable place to visit.

That business is the Swiss Meat & Sausage Company, a third generation, family owned and operated establishment.  Since its' founding in 1969 by Bill Sloan, the company has produced award winning hams, bacons, smoked turkeys and of course sausages!  The walls of the retail store tell the story of the success of the business as plaque after plaque displays the hundreds of awards attributed to their products.

The company produces well over 40 varieties of bratwurst alone!  It is these sausages that have gained them nationwide success.  Recent press articles and nationwide television coverage of the Wurstfest celebration held in Hermann broadcast the results of the "Best of Show" Smoked Bratwurst they produce.      This caught the attention of many sausage lovers nationwide, including officials from the Amtrak railway system out of Chicago, IL.

Amtrak officials sampled several varieties of sausages.  They were searching for a fully cooked and smoked sausage to add to their daily menu on Amtrak trains nationwide.  The product had to be quick and easy to serve and of course, tasteful!

Their sausage of preference selected was the "Best of Show" Smoked Bratwurst.

Samples of the smoked bratwurst were shipped to the Chicago Amtrak office for a photo shoot and publicity.  The initial order was shipped to SK Foods (formerly Stovers Kitchen) in Seattle, WA where they will be individually packaged on buns for quick microwave cooking on the trains.

Steve Sposari, president of SK Foods commented, "As the June 9th, 2004 nationwide roll out of the Swiss Meat & Sausage Company Bratwurst approaches on the Amtrak railway system, I just want to relay my comments on your product.  Everyone at the SK Food Group is impressed with the product quality and taste.  It exceeds our quality standards on every level and feel certain it will be a huge success in the Amtrak system."

Swiss Meat & Sausage Company's  president, Mike Sloan and his entire staff of about twenty look forward to a long lasting relationship with SK Food Group and the Amtrak Railway System.
