The History of Swiss Meat & Sausage Co.

Bill Sloan and Leroy Epple established Swiss Processing Plant Inc. in October 1969 for the purpose of butchering animals for the local farmers. Bill and Margie bought out Leroy in 1974 and doubled the size of the operation by adding more cooler space, a larger retail area, and two more smokehouses.
Because Bill was always looking for new opportunites, his foresight led to the beginning of a successful catering operation in 1976. For the first couple of years, we specialized in supplying only the meat for weddings, anniversaries, or parties.

Then Margie decided to accommodate their catering customers' needs by offering many side dishes and drinks to compliment BIll's German Sausages, Hams, Roast Beef, Smoked Whole Hogs, Turkeys, and Chickens.
Bill and Margie worked as the catering coordinators and helped out wherever needed. They watched over - and worried - about their five children and twelve grandchildren, but tragedy struck our family on November 5, 1998 with the sudden and unexpected passing of Margie at the age of 62.

Bill has handed most of the responsibility for the operation of the entire plant to Mike, his only son. But, he is still here to talk to customers (he loves to talk!) and give his advice on important decisions.
In 1997, Mike doubled the size of the operation by adding a warehouse, a packing room, a sausage room, more cooler space, a sausage kitchen, and more smokehouses. He also upgraded some equipment to remain competitive and to diversify our operations. We now offer wholesale, internet and mail order, deer processing, sausage sales, and private labeling as well as custom processing, retail sales, and catering.

Three of Bill and Margie's children (Sharon, Janice, and Deana) and Mike's wife Lynette, work full time at the plant. In addition to family, we have some of the most dedicated employeed in the business, whose basic interest has always been to ensure our customers receive the finest, most delicious, top quality meat that money can buy. Our company motto is, "Quality Goes In Before Our Name Goes On."
